Uttarakhand Open University
was established in the year 2005 vide Act No. 23 of the Uttarakhand Government
with an objective to take knowledge to the various sections of society through
self learning. Uttarakhand Open University is progressing leaps and bounds due
to its new, innovative and useful educational programmes through the use of
latest information and communication technology and contact sessions. The main
objective of the University is to develop trained and skilled human resource
for substantial development and progress. At the same time the University does
not compromise with the quality of education. Keeping in mind the fast changing
trends in vocational and technical education, the University has developed its
programmes in such a manner that it opens doors of employment and
self-employment as well. The University is chiefly determined for the
development of women, tribals and those who are left out from main stream. The
University is continuously growing and has been successful in reaching out to
the unreached. In order to use the knowledge and resources for humankind, the
University has entered into collaborations by signing of MoUs with different
providers. It has been done in view of sharing available knowledge and
resources. The University has established eight regional centers namely
Dehradun, Roorkee, Pauri, Uttarakashi, Ranikhet, Bageshwar, Haldwani and
Pithoragarh. The programmes of the Univeristy areconducted from the study
centres associated with these regional centres. At present the University has
284 study centres.
